PAPYROS™ Kiln Shelf Paper is a ceramic-based paper specially formulated for glass fusing. When placed between the kiln shelf and the underside of a glass project, PAPYROS™ prevents the glass from sticking to the shelf during firing. Because of its sturdy composition, PAPYROS™ provides excellent glass/kiln shelf separation on the first use, and frequently even in subsequent firings.
How long post-fired PAPYROS™ retains its integrity depends on the type of glass used on the project underside (Opal vs. Transparent), the nature of the project (volume/construction), as well as the final fusing temperature (degree of glass movement in the kiln).
- Studio Roll - 41" wide x 33 ft. (104cm x 10m) - Provides the opportunity to benefit from purchasing a full width roll without the investment of a full length bulk roll. The Studio Roll will cover your 13" shelf up to 90 times!
USAGE/CLEANUP
To Use - Line the entire shelf, or cut a piece of PAPYROS™ measuring at least ½-in. larger than your project (on all sides), then place your glass project(s) on the papered shelf and fuse as you would normally.
To Clean Up - When you’ve decided that you’re ready for a new piece of PAPYROS™, use one of the options listed below to dispose of the expired paper.
- Shop-Vac: Vacuum using a shop-vac equipped with a HEPA filter. If using a Shop Vac, ensure that your HEPA filters are changed on a regular basis so vacuum functions correctly. When using a trash basket, make sure you use a one dedicated for paper disposal, that has a fitted lid, and is lined with a plastic bag. Empty trash bags on a regular basis.
- Spatula: Using a studio spatula, fold over the sheet of expired PAPYROS™ into a small “packet” (reminiscent of making a crêpe foldover) and lower it into a dedicated, lined trash basket, then close lid. Empty the bags frequently.
