It definitely appears the economy is declining and will bottom out some time in this year. For all of us, that means less purchase dollars available as we struggle to make a living and keep our families fed. A&a Products recognizes this difficult cycle in our economy, and its impact on many families. My promise is we will try to do all we can to support our artisans and make life a bit easier.. In this issue, you will find special sales on items we think you use often. Also, read the article on things to consider doing as we enter this down period in our economy. These are things you should consider. Despite what politicians would have you to believe, the President does not control the economy and it will fluctuate as our economic gurus work to keep it stable in a growing world where trade has become multi-national. Economies always fluctuate and by this time next year, we expect things to be to better. Meanwhile, we hope that every family survives this downturn with finances, family and health intact. best wishes Murray |

WHAT TO DO IN ECONOMIC
DOWNTURNS
Assuming you make items of glass to sell and assuming you are finding sales dropping in a downward economy, how can you stay afloat and recoup losses when a good economy returns? These are tough questions, but here are some ideas that address this situation. 1. If you have been selling items and find sales down due to the economy, try lowering your prices and going for more volume and less profit per piece. You may not increase your sales, but you can possibly keep them level by selling more for less. In down economies, people really look for the best prices. 2. Sometimes you can create different pieces to meet your lower prices. Make something smaller; make it from less expensive materials; do a little less embellishing. By keeping your costs down, you can lower prices and still make the same percentage profit. 3. The economy is like a roller coaster. It is cyclic. How do you prepare for the upturn? Remember that part of the problem can be increasing prices of materials. So do this: Buy as much material now as you can afford. Stock up. An investment now will mean you spend less than you will next year. Continue to make and carry a good supply of your product. When times get better, you will have sufficient quantity to survive a big buying spree and your profit will be higher because you paid less for the materials. This assumes you make items that don't go out of date in a year or two. Don't do this with specialty or fad items. 4. People tend to buy what they need, or at least what they can use, when times are tough. Consider changing your products to something more functional; something perhaps that can be used in the home; something that is both beautiful and practical. Cheese trays, dishes, napkin holders, jewelry boxes, etc. This can not only increase your sales, it can be a great new experience as you learn something new. 5. Lastly, have patience. Don't get discouraged by a downturn. It won't last forever. Do all you can to be prepared for changes - and never let your enthusiasm decline with the economy. Just the opposite. It is a great time for increasing your work. Every broker knows that when things get bad in the market, it's time to invest more money - not take it out. This is also true for artists. The increased work will build a solid base for the future and will keep your mind from getting dejected about a temporary downturn. Stay in the groove. Things will sing again soon and you will be ready. . |
